Design Challenge:

‍To design a classic car garage that harmonizes with the surrounding landscape, a 1/4 scale railroad, and a charming tiny village and train barn. The new structure needed to replace three buildings lost during the 2017 complex fires in Sonoma County while maintaining the character and spirit of the site.  

Physical Context:

‍Nestled in a secluded residential property in Sonoma County, the site features a unique blend of natural beauty and whimsical elements, including the quarter-scale train and village, train station, and train barn, creating a distinctive and nostalgic setting.

Solution:

‍The new garage was designed with a timeless aesthetic to complement the existing 1/4 scale railroad and train barn. Decorative structural steel hammer beam trusses, developed through extensive research, create a dramatic setting for the car collection. A programmable stage lighting system enhances the space, allowing for different moods and scenes to showcase the automobiles.
