Mending Wall Winery

Saint Helena, California

Design Challenge:

To design a winery production facility and a high-end tasting room experience that seamlessly fits into its rural residential setting. The design needed to respect the neighboring lifestyle during harvest season while ensuring an efficient layout for the winemaking process.

Physical Context:

Situated along the prominent Silverado Trail in Napa County, between Saint Helena and Calistoga, the site lies at the base of the Mayacamas Mountain Range and is surrounded by residential properties and vineyards.

Solution:

The new facility takes inspiration from early Californian agricultural architecture, blending historical charm with modern functionality. Set back from the Silverado Trail and adjacent to a natural water drainage from the Mayacamas Mountains, the building is carefully integrated into its vineyard surroundings. The highly customized pre-engineered steel structure features a covered, drive-through crush pad at its core, flanked by barrel storage on one side and a hospitality area on the other, creating an efficient and elegant environment for both production and tasting experiences.
